What is our role in the political mess? Primary role is to further the gospel.
Mark 16:15 – And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
But we also have Biblical instructions that go into civic roles.
1. We are to correct oppression….so yes it is our Biblical duty to oppose tyranny-but more than that-take action against it.
Isaiah 1:17 – learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.
Isaiah 10:1 – Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing oppression,
Isaiah makes it clear that these oppressive lockdown and tyrannical measures crushing American’s now and taking away their free speech and 2A rights are oppressive and we should seek to correct that. How should we respond to the injustice with the election, abortion, and high crimes in our country? The arrests of those just seeking to exercise their constitutional rights? Those who speak out against injustice?
Hebrews 11:32 – And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets—Hebrews 11:33 – who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
We are told in Hebrews as the hero’s of the faith are recounted that these men and women “enforced justice”.
Micah 6:8 – He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
Isaiah 59:15b-16a The LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice. 16 He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intercede;
Notice that the Lord was displeased when no man interceded on the part of injustice. We need to be active in fighting all the injustices in our society (abortion, pervesion of justice, fraud, etc).
Psalm 82:3-4 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. 4 Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
We are to seek to take action to put godly rulers in place and God gives us plenty of guidance on government and civic duties
Exodus 18:21 Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. (Additionally Deut 1:15-16)
We should be involved. We should take action. There are times that Biblical action will not line up with human institutions (many times) but we are to obey God rather than men. I believe a strong case can be made that we could be disobeying God to not take civic action against institutions that openly defy God, oppress the peoples, and do evil…calling good evil and evil good. I think we should all seek God prayerfully and seek what God would have us to do. We can all do something-we might not all be called to fight the same battles but we should take civic action in some form. The left in America is openly defying things of God and calling evil good and good evil. They are oppressing people and committing great injustices and perversions of justice. We cannot in good concsience stand by. We need to rise up and honor God by taking action against the injustice. God give us wisdom on how to do that.
