An Artist’s Perspective on Black and White

Black and white are crucial colors for artists.

They help create the many different tints and tones of colors.

They help create sharp contrast in photos.

They are fundamental in sketches.

They are standard for written word.

They are excellent tools for design.

They are NOT an accurate description of people’s skin tones. Any artist fully understands this by working with these colors. The variant shades of black and white are shades of gray. No one has gray skin tones.

Individual skin tones are variant shades of brown, a beautiful and unique gift. Just as eye color variation and hair color variations are. No two individuals are the same; each of us is unique. As an artist that is fascinating and wonderfully creative!
